It’s funny: There are threads on the Apple Support forums with people crying that these devices aren’t working, and lots of horrible/useless suggestions to fix them. I installed version 2.8.0 from Asix and everything is hunky-dory again.

So rather than trying to chase down Cable Matters or j5 Create, just head to .tw and download the AX88179 driver from there.

The simple solution: Reinstall the driver!Īs is typical with devices like this, it’s best to install the basic driver from the chipset company rather than the specialized drivers from the device company.

Since this chipset is not supported “out of box” by Mac OS X or macOS, it’s necessary to install a driver to get it working. And upgrading to macOS 10.12 “Sierra” unsurprisingly kills this driver. Both are essentially identical, though, being based on the AX88179 chipset from Asix of Taiwan. I’ve got a few different USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet dongles: One from Cable Matters (from Amazon) and another by j5 Create (from Best Buy). But have no fear! It’s a simple fix! Cable Matters clearly intended to target Mac users with this white Ethernet adapter and its Apple-esque packaging This time it’s many popular third-party USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapters that don’t work.
#MAC USB ETHERNET ADAPTER DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 10 UPDATE#
or whatever it's called. It’s become routine: Each new update of Mac OS X macOS breaks third-party drivers and applications. Then manually select drivers (don't use windows update or the driver search) and scroll for the ethernet controller drivers and try Atheros folder and Broadcom Connections Inc. Don't use the folder, go in device manager and select ethernet controller and right click it to update the driver. So I'll work with that.įor ethernet, maybe try some Atheros ethernet drivers. I saw someone use Atheros 938x and that driver installed and didn't give a message about the controller unable to be turned on. It shows no connections and I tried so many Broadcom drivers and a couple Atheros drivers for it. What am I supposed to do if the same thing is happening for me but for wifi and audio? I can hear my mac if I plug something into the 3.5 mm port but otherwise the speakers won't play anything and my wifi isnt working either. I did the same thing with my regular 2013 iMac. He was talking about manually installing the drivers. Posts with unsourced content may be edited or deleted. Want to improve this post? Add citations from reputable sources by editing the post.
#MAC USB ETHERNET ADAPTER DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 10 HOW TO#
You may want to refer the the question: How to install Windows 10 into a 2013 iMac without using the Boot Camp Assistant, USB flash drive or third party tools? The accepted answer provides a few extra steps your article may have omitted. This image was taken from this Apple website. If the WindowsSupport folder contains an AutoUnattend.xml file, then the Windows installation software did not receive any addition instructions provided by Apple to correctly install the Windows operating system.Īn example of how the files should appear in the root folder of the Windows installation media is shown below. If so, then none of the Windows Support Software drivers needed properly install Windows were provided to the Windows installation software. If you have this folder on your flash drive, then I will assume this folder contains the folder named $WinPEDriver$. Note, there is a folder named WindowsSupport. The article included a step where the Windows Support Software (the legacy name is Boot Camp Support Software) is installed. I assume this because the article did not provide the necessary steps to create one.

I assume your installation did not include a Window Recovery Environment partition. You should not have to disable SIP to install Windows. The article does not mention System Integrity Protection (SIP).Starting with with High Sierra, macOS no longer creates Hybrid partitioned drives. If fact, you do not even need a USB flash drive.

One of the first things I noticed about the article you link to is that there is no mention of a particular model or year Mac.
